Latest Information about the Corona Virus

March 19 - 22, 2020, Reed Messe Wien Exhibition & Congress Center, Messeplatz 1, 1021 Vienna/AUSTRIA

Update 8.3.

Coupe d’Europe cancelled – postponed! Please see below’s message from the Austrian Federation to the CEB Board. We will keep you posted and will try, together with the CEB to find a suitable new date. Let’s all cross fingers, that the Corona Virus situation will get under control soon to be able to hold the scheduled event later this year.

Dear Madame President, dear Mr. Vice-President, dear sports director.

In your function as President, Vice President and Sports Director of CEB you are the first to be informed about a very hard decision the Austrian Federation had to make last night after very careful evaluation and long discussion. In the last 3 days the measurements regarding the Corona virus crisis increased again all over Europe. Main issues for us are:

  • The teams of Italy, San Marino and Swiss canceled the European team championship 5-Pin and several other countries are thinking about such a step.
  • The Sudbiliardi team (MARI), responsible for the tables, also canceled and the support of Kozoom is in question because of travel restrictions.
  • Also the healthcare institutions of Austria have raised their warning level.
  • The Austrian ministry of Sports reports the legal situation in case of an official event as “unclear”.

Under all of this conditions and to protect our sport, the players and the fans, we have to cancel the Coupe d’Europe 5-Pins for National Teams from 19th to 22nd of March.

After careful evaluation of the spreading corona virus epidemic, considering the recent statements issued by the WHO and the ECDC, the withdrawal of some teams and the related evolving world-wide restrictions and crisis, the Austrian Federation was forced to make this decision. Above all, we have analyzed the recommendations from the Austrian health authorities for large-scale events and came to the conclusion that we are not in a position to fulfil their requirements and guarantee a safe tournament for the teams and all visitors at this time. The safety, health and well-being of our community will always be the highest priority for the Austrian Federation.

We would like to express our sincere thanks to all of you for your understanding, continuous support and flexibility.

We are looking for an opportunity to organize this championship later in 2020. We“ll do what we can and we are quite positive to do it in autumn. A proposed new date will follow as soon as possible. For now, we need a lot of work, to inform all the stakeholders, to cancel hotel rooms and the venue and we have to solve the financial problems.

Please inform all nations via email and on your CEB website/calendar about this cancelation.

For the Austrian federation

President of Austrian Billiard federation

Update 26.2.2020
As information to all rumours going on regarding the Corona virus and the upcoming Coupe d’Europe 5-Pins for National teams we would like to issue the following updated statement regarding today’s situation.

Although the World Health Organization (WHO) has published a statement under the International Health Regulations (IHR) concerning Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC), the WHO has also declared that it does not recommend any travel or trade restriction based on the current information available.

Please refer to the WHO website for updated information.

At present there are also no travel restrictions to Vienna or Austria in general nor any other limitations for congresses, private or public events. The Austrian Federal Ministry of Social Affairs, Health, Care and Consumer Protection currently sees no need for recommendations or restrictions in regard to events taking place in Vienna.

The Agency for Health and Nutrition, a subsidiary of the Federal Ministry, has furthermore published a statement about the “relatively low risk” of the new coronavirus. The following precautions are recommended, in accordance with the WHO:

  • Wash your hands frequently and thoroughly with water and soap
  • When sneezing or coughing, cover mouth and nose with a tissue (not your hands!) or sneeze or cough in the crook of your arm; throw away your tissue immediately into a closed bin and clean your hands
  • Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth
  • Avoid direct contact with sick people
  • If you have fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical care early, but “don’t panic”

At the venue, disinfectants will be provided in all washrooms and disinfection tissues will be available throughout the building.Furthermore there will be a medical team who is aware of the latest developments and regulations and is of course fully equipped according to recommendations issued by the Austrian health authorities.

Please check this page periodically for any changes and/or to simply stay updated about the current situation or any relevant changes.

Apart from this unpleasant situation all over the world please rest assured, that we are doing our utmost to guarantee a smooth Coupe d’Europe and that we will minimize the risk at the highest level possible.
